Two OTF Grants Totalling $277,400 Help Inn From the Cold Build Resiliency
Newmarket, ON – On Thursday, MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy met with the team at Inn From the Cold (IFTC) to hear how two Resilient Communities Fund grants totalling $277,400 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) are helping it recover from the impacts of COVID-19. The funds will help Inn From the Cold continue delivering programs that will make its clients more resilient for years to come.
“I am thrilled to announce these two grants for this great community organization,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Newmarket—Aurora. “IFTC is changing the lives of people experiencing homelessness, while changing the perception of homelessness. These grants are a great example of how we are building our community together by delivering innovative and sustainable housing programs and services.”
In the spring, Inn From the Cold received it’s first OTF grant of $73,800 to help with the costs involved with developing a new website and improving its digital presence. The grant is also being used to help it implement a health and wellness strategy and organizational risk management plan for going forward.
Inn From the Cold learned this summer that it was also going to receive a two-year $199,100 Resilient Communities Fund grant to help it with some staffing costs, including being able to hire a Systems Navigator, as it works towards launching its Please Come Inn head lease program. The grant will also help Inn From the Cold with some administrative costs over the next two years.
“These investments by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to fund a Systems Navigator and kick start our Please Come Inn head lease program is great news for many in our community,” said Ann Watson, Executive Director at Inn From the Cold. “Many will benefit from understanding and accessing the systems that are required for full participation in our communities and access to affordable, sustainable housing through Please Come Inn will change lives.”
Inn From the Cold’s vision of shelter, dignity, and safety for everyone in York Region is enhanced with this funding, as is our ability to partner with our clients on their journeys out of homelessness. The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario.
